FIVE SENSES FRIDAY #3
A busy week mostly filled with work, tv and zzz...
SOUNDS...
wishing I didn't have to wake up to the rude ringing of the alarm clock every morning...
SMELLS...
the sharp tang of chili sauce wafting through my nose during my dinner of chicken rice... I'll just have mine with dark soya sauce, thank you...
SIGHTS...
spacing out in front of the telly after a long day at work... and wishing I were in any of the places featured in the travelogues instead of here...
TASTE...
no relaxing beach vacation for me... how about some seashell-shaped chocolates instead?
TOUCH...
in bed with some fresh clean sheets... zzz....

ADVENTURES IN THE KITCHEN #1
Was actually quite apprehensive about doing the recipe swap with Tifanie, because while I like to cook I'm really not that great at it...
I'm not one who's very precise when it comes to measurements and following through the instructions on recipes - that probably explains my baking misadventures so far ;p
Hence, I'm not sure if I am capable of recording recipes here, especially since what I'm about to describe is a combination of a dish from a cookbook I'd browsed through at the bookstore and a vague adaptation from this recipe at Smitten Kitchen. But anyways, here goes...
::My Cabbage Package::
1 head cabbage (try to get a bigger one - mine was the size of my hand and I found it too small)
250 grams ground pork
100 grams mushrooms, diced (I used Enoki, which I cut into 5cm portions)
1 small to medium onion, finely chopped
2 carrots, shredded
1 can cream of chicken soup
2 tablespoons olive oil
salt and pepper to taste
Cut the core out of the cabbage but leave it whole. Place it, with the empty core area facing up, in a large bowl. Boil a small pot of water and pour the water over the cabbage. Let it sit for 10 minutes.

Heat the oil in a sauce pan. Cook the onions until they are soft, then add the carrots and mushrooms. Cook until all of them are soft, then transfer it to a bowl to cool a bit. Mix in the meat and season with salt and pepper.
Drain the head of cabbage. Pull off the leaves (I later realised I should also cut the veins out partially and pull the sides to overlap before you roll it into one roll). Pat the leaves dry with towels.
Wrap about 1/2 to 1 tablespoon of filling in each leaf (depending on the size of your leaf) as you would a parcel. When finished, arrange the cabbage rolls in a large, wide pot. Pour in enough water (or chicken stock) to cover the rolls. Bring to a boil and reduce the heat, letting them simmer covered on the stove on low for about 30 minutes.
(as you can see I had to use toothpicks to hold some of the rolls together as the leaves were too small...so do remember to get a bigger head of cabbage!)
Meanwhile, in another pot, cook the cream of chicken soup according to directions on can. When both soup and cabbage rolls are ready, pour the soup over the rolls as a sauce and it's ready to be served!
